Frequently Asked Question
Better Products in a Better Way
You deserve to be pampered.
Waxing leaves your skin soft, smooth and hair free.
People who are trying out waxing for the first time often have many of the same concerns.
Here is a list of frequently asked questions.
What is waxing
Waxing is a process of hair removal using warm melted wax to adhere to body hair, removing this by pulling the hair right from the follicle.
Does waxing hurt
Everyone has a different scale for pain tolerance, and what is painful for someone may not bother someone else. Brooklynn's wax and process work together to offer the most comfortable service possible.
Wax vs shaving, electrolysis, or laser
When waxed consistently, hair grows back slower, finer and sparser. Shaving cuts hair; it doesn’t remove it, so the quantity and thickness remain the same. Electrolysis and laser hair removal don’t work for everyone, which makes waxing a great alternative.
How long can I expect my wax to last
Waxing is a lifestyle. Waxing should last anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks, depending on your personal hair growth, the location of your wax, and the accuracy of the application. To achieve minimal growth, it’s important to return regularly, at least four weeks. Coming back at the right time means your hair cycle is ready to be pulled at the most important time.
Can I wax on my period
Totally! Business as usual. Waxing may be more sensitive around this time. Suggest scheduling your appointments around your cycle. Please make sure to wear a diva cup or a clean tampon.
Grow back thicker, darker or heavier
It will not. Waxing removes the hair from the root. This damages the hair follicle; therefore, the hair will grow back finer and sparser with repeated waxing.
What kind of wax are available
Two different types of wax. We use a traditional soft wax for larger body areas such as legs, arms, chest, and back and it is removed using a cloth strip. For the face and more sensitive body areas, we use a hard resin that shrinks, wraps and hardens around the hair and lifts from the skin, creating a more comfortable experience
Age Limit
There is no waxing age limit or waxing age requirement. However, if you’re under 18, bring a parent or guardian on your first visit, as consent is needed
GENERAL QUESTIONS
On Medications
Many medications affect skin and skin integrity (glycolic acid, lactic acid, benzyl peroxide, salicylic acid, alpha hydroxyl acid, vitamin A, prescribed exfoliating scrubs, antibiotics, hormonal medications, radiation and chemotherapy drugs). Please consult your physician regarding any medications and how they may affect your waxing experience.
Can someone go in the treatment room with me
Unfortunately, only the client and Esthetician are allowed in the treatment room during the appointment. For clients under 16, we invite a parent or guardian to be on hand.
Skin Integrity
Those using Retin-A and Accutane should avoid waxing. These products increase the rate at which your skin naturally exfoliates its skin cells. Facial treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion and laser can also affect the integrity of your skin. Even over-the-counter medications like Differin gel or other acne products can affect your skin.
Can I wax if I’m pregnant
Of course. I’ll do my best to make you comfortable. Some products contain chemical exfoliants. It is recommended that you talk to your doctor before using them.
What is a Brazilian Wax? Is a Brazilian Wax the Same As A Bikini Wax
A Brazilian wax has got you covered from the front and back. While the Bikini wax only focuses on what may peek out of your underwear line.

PRE-WAXING QUESTIONS
Exfoliate
Exfoliate the area several days before your appointment. Thoroughly clean the area keeping the skin moist but not greasy from heavy lotions or oils.
Let it grow
Hair must be at least 1/4" to 1/2" long for effective waxing. For most people, this means waiting 2-4 weeks (minimum of 2 weeks) from the last time you shaved. The longer you wait, the better the results.
* If your hair is too short at the time of your appointment, you will be charged for half of the service total and be rescheduled.
Timing the tan
Avoid sun tanning 1-2 days before and after your waxing appointment, including sunless tan.
*waxing can not be done on sunburnt skin.
What should I wear for a bikini wax

30 mins before the appointment.
Taking Advil or Ibuprofen 30 minutes before your waxing service will help reduce pain and inflammation. Please consult with your doctor before taking any new medications. Limit your caffeine intake on the day of your waxing service. Caffeine stimulates the nervous system and increases sensitivity.
Brow wax
Getting your eyebrows professionally waxed is an excellent step towards achieving a more desirable eyebrow shape and improving your aesthetic appearance. However, to get the best results from your waxing appointment, there are several things you need to do to prepare for the session, as follows
1) Brow shape/design
There are various eyebrow shapes you can select from, and deciding which one you want and what works for you can help ensure that you get the best outcome from your eyebrow waxing appointment. Which shape works best for you? Our wax esthetician can help steer you in the right direction.
2) Skin/Medical conditional
Inform Brooklynn if you are taking any topical facial medications such as Retin-A or Accutane or if you have any skin conditions such as acne or rosacea. Some skin care products can make your skin overly sensitive or cause it to peel. You also don’t want waxing to exacerbate any skin conditions you might have.
3) Cosmetic treatments
As tempting as it may be, you must avoid plucking those stray hairs between appointments. Plucking will disturb the hair cycle and prolong the hair growth time. It's best to let your eyebrows grow naturally. It's always best to let your eyebrows grow naturally and let your waxing expert shape them.
4) Tweezers
As tempting as it may be, you must avoid plucking those stray hairs between appointments. Plucking will disturb the hair cycle and prolong the hair growth time. It's best to let your eyebrows grow naturally. It's always best to let your eyebrows grow naturally and let your waxing expert shape them.
5) Avoid make-up
It’s best to arrive at your appointment makeup-free, so avoid wearing eyeshadow, brow filler, or brow powder. It will ensure we can see your hair and what needs to be removed. Any makeup residue could clog freshly opened pores even if they clean your brows before waxing.
POST-WAX QUESTIONS
Why is aftercare important
Post-wax care is all about prevention and maintenance and is important for the same reasons as why your regular skincare routine is important - it's what's best for your skin! Not only does it keep you safe from ingrown and bacteria build-up, but it also helps to restore skin after the waxing process. Brooklynn has a product recommendation for every skin type/issue.
What are post-waxing precautions
Wear loose-fitting clothing to avoid friction and irritation. Avoid hot baths or showers. Avoid scented products, lotions, and creams, which irritate sensitized skin. Apply an over-the-counter cortisone cream on the waxed area to reduce inflammation.
How long does waxing last after the first time
After a client's first waxing, the results can last 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the individual's hair re-growth rate. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth weeks.
How long should you practice post-wax Care
Though the first 24-36 hours are the most important for post-wax care, clients should practice proper skincare daily - even if they haven’t waxed recently.
